Secretary’s Notes

Firstly, welcome and thank you to our new and regular members who have joined us and to those who have donated during this financial year. A reminder that there is a general/social meeting on the first Saturday of every month (except January) at 1:00pm, held at the Golden Square Senior Citizens Club in Old High Street, Golden Square. Every second month a committee meeting will be held at 12:00pm.

Wow, middle of the year already and winter has certainly hit us in July. Thankfully the WRIN phone has been fairly quiet lately, giving our operators a well earned rest.

I was lucky enough to attend the Australian Wildlife Rehabilitation Conference this year in Hobart during the last week in May. What a wonderful experience, every day was jam packed with presentations and a field trip. I was totally in awe of the number of people attending this event and the knowledge and dedication of both presenters and attendees. This event is held every two years and I certainly recommend it. The conference will be in Melbourne in 2016, so a good chance for you to attend.

We have one new phone operator, welcome and thanks for your time Barb.

Assistant Secretary – Brenda Argus
Treasurer – Rob Schrieber

Due to Huntly Fire Brigade field trip, our social meeting for Saturday 6th September was cancelled.

It was announced that WRIN is not covered by insurance to hold the planned November Fete. (Chris Harrison volunteered to organize the fete and has arranged appropriate insurance cover for us since AGM.) If you would like to have a stall at our ‘Natural Nature’ fete please contact Chris on 0439 011 617 or cnh7@bigpond.com. Stall holders will be charged a fee of $15.
Lynne approached Bendigo Council about putting ‘beware of swans’ signs on the roads at Lake Weeroona, due to a pair of swans and their three cygnets crossing busy roads. Council has approved and signs are in place.

October Meeting:
A good attendance for the general meeting, and a very informative talk from Geoff Parks on
the ‘Fauna and Flora of Newstead.
The November Fete was postponed due to most stall holders being unavailable, the Murrabit
Market is held on the same day, and a busy week with the Bendigo and Melbourne Cups. A
new date is yet to be arranged, but looking at March/April.
Huntly Fire Brigade field trip had a poor attendance, but those few who attended found it a
very interesting and informative day.
CEPA Expo was attended to by Lynne with a WRIN stall. Lynne suggested we not attend
with a stall anymore as there was no interest shown. It was suggested and agreed that in
future WRIN provide an information/display board with cards and brochures for the day
instead.
A box of various sized pouches was received from Karly Learmonth (DEPI) which her family
and friends had made. These will be available, as well as other paraphernalia, to carers’ at
future meetings.
Treasurer’s report was not available for perusal due to audit. Rob read out a quick financial
statement and account balances. A reminder, that statements/reports are available to
members by contacting Rob Schrieber.

Jenny S. asked if a letter could be sent to Bendigo Council stating that WRIN members are
happy to attend any pruning or cutting down of trees. Garry stated that one of the
requirements of council giving permission to prune/cut down trees is that they have an
appropriate wildlife person observing proceedings. Garry is to contact Bendigo Council to
verify this.
Jenny S. also asked if WRIN could approach Bendigo Council regarding the need of wildlife
crossing signs along the new section of road in Haywood Street, White Hills. Jenny is to
email details to Denise and Denise will look into it.
Christmas meeting was discussed. WRIN will supply lunch for members prior to the General
Meeting. Volunteers are needed to help with catering. Please contact Brenda Argus if you
can help.
