Unfortunately more bad news for our wildlife. The State Government has written up a new proposal for ‘The Authority to Control Wildlife’ system. They are proposing to ban wildlife carers from rescuing and rehabilitating species of kangaroo, wombats, cockatoos and possums. The Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning (DELWP), suggests that wildlife shelters and carers allocate too much of their resources towards caring for animals, which the department and some members of the public deem as “overabundant”. To read the proposal and have your say by filling in a questionnaire, go to the DELWP website or the Wildlife Rescue Information Network Facebook page.
